International Women’s Day (8th March) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
International Women’s Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Prior to this the Socialist Party of America, United Kingdom’s Suffragists and Suffragettes, and further groups campaigned for women’s equality.
Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.

Since its inception, Blu Wireless has been committed to promoting an inclusive working environment for all. This year, in celebration of International Women’s Day and its theme, #BalanceForBetter, we asked the inspiring women in our business to share their Blu Wireless stories and about the importance of gender balance in the business arena.
Marie Hodgson, HR Manager: “I initially joined as a consultant in January 2014 and I’ve been here ever since! I like working with honest, friendly and diligent people, and the Blu Wireless team are all of these things. It is an environment where I have always felt welcome, comfortable and respected.”
Lucia Jarvis, Brand and Communications Assistant: “I’ve really enjoyed being a part of Blu Wireless’s growth since I joined in July of last year. It’s an organisation which provides me with the opportunity to refine my skillset and evolve both personally and professionally.”
Lisa Meehan, Front End Design Engineer: “Joining an innovative and growing company based in the centre of Bristol was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. From a technical point of view, Blu Wireless are at the cutting edge – and the possibility of breaking new ground motivates me every day.”
Rula Arbash, Front End Design Engineer: “I see myself growing into a leadership and a management role. By observing our current senior staff, I’m able to learn valuable lessons while on the job. Blu Wireless is also exposing me to various project development stages, which gives me a well-rounded view of the business.”

Liz Ward, Office Administrator: “Encouraging and maintaining an inclusive attitude towards women in the workplace is as important now as it ever has been. We’re moving closer towards gender equality in the business world, but we’re not quite there yet, so it’s important to take steps which will help us to achieve it in the future.”
Jo Richards, Office Manager: “It’s important to highlight gender balance and to encourage more ladies into the tech world. We are a friendly bunch at Blu Wireless and we make everyone welcome here, regardless of their gender.”
