Stephen has been with us at Blu Wireless for a year and is an important member of the team. From beginning of his time with us as part of the Hardware team helping with production to moving into the Customer Engineering team to work on one of our larger projects, Stephen continues to prove himself as one of our best Applications Engineers.
We talked to Stephen about his role and what he enjoys the most about being part of Blu Wireless.
Describe a typical day in your role: What are your core responsibilities?
Stephen: Typically, I manage the relationships with various members of the consortiums and some of our partners. My main focus is working on the Liverpool 5G Testbed project – talking to our project partners, planning new nodes and testing their functionality. I was previously in the hardware team doing hands-on work and now I’m part of our customer engineering team. I work on various different tasks and projects, occasionally working off-site on a field trial or testing, which is great as I get to do some travelling on the job.
What is it about your role that you enjoy the most?
Stephen: I like the fast-paced environment. Being able to solve problems and challenges for our customers and making it work for all parties involved is always really positive. I enjoy planning ahead and addressing challenges that can fix and improve our processes. It’s very fulfilling to be able to help our customers whenever I can, as well as the team internally.
How has your career progressed at Blu Wireless? Have you experienced any changes of role or taken on responsibility for any significant projects?
Stephen: I started out in the hardware team in production, so mainly hands-on tasks such as screwing and building nodes, though my role has evolved since then. Most of the tasks I was working on in production were for our Liverpool 5G project and eventually I was asked to work on the project full time and take on further responsibilities.
How did you start out your career? What made you decide to join Blu Wireless?
Stephen: As it happens, Blu Wireless’s work aligns with what I studied for my degree – Systems and Control Engineering. My role here at Blu Wireless allows me to develop the skills I learnt during my time at university and gain more experience.
If you had to describe Blu Wireless in three words, what would these be?
Stephen: Smart, Friendly, Inclusive.
What do you like about working with the rest of the Blu Wireless team?
Stephen: There’s a really good atmosphere, everyone is easy to talk to and down-to-earth. I’d describe Blu Wireless as a progressive company with very talented and approachable people. If you ever need help from anyone, you just have to ask – no matter what team they are in.
What opportunities do employees at Blu Wireless benefit from?
Stephen: Sweets on Friday afternoons – everyone needs that sugar rush before the weekend! Personally, I particularly enjoy the cycle-to-work scheme as it’s very handy to have. The company socials and events are always fun, too.
What would you say to anyone who was considering applying to Blu Wireless?
Stephen: We’re a really friendly and welcoming team, so don’t be afraid to be yourself.
